My Practice Approach

I strive towards attunement, care, and compassion in our work together. My approach to therapy involves a non-judgemental, experiential, attachment based, somatic informed, collaborative, and relational practice. I am rooted in anti-racism, & intersectionality. I strive for Disability justice motivated, anti-oppressive,  trauma and survivor informed care work that is person-centered.

My work recognizes the necessity of collectively rooted care within community, culture, and the environment. This involves recognizing the wisdom of our bodies and our minds in supporting us to survive, heal, and grow. I believe in a holistic mind-body connection in order to address the problems of our lives.

I am influenced by the generosity of various Queer, Trans, Black and Indigenous Elders, Mentors, Knowledge Keepers, peers, children and young people who have granted me perspective, awareness, and ongoing troubling of my own culpability in systems of harm. These teachings continue to inform my practice philosophy, my humanity, and my ever evolving understanding of care work.

Foundations of Care

  • As an experienced MSW, RSW and a part of the neurodivergent community myself, I specialize in providing neurodivergent affirming care that is aligned to sensory needs and I am aware of neurodivergent specific burnout. I prioritize understanding and embracing the diverse and unique experiences, sensitivities, gifts, and perspectives of neurodivergent individuals, by creating a safe(r), accepting, and supportive environment for our specific mental wellness needs.

To me, neurodivergent affirming care is grounded in empowerment, acceptance, honouring, and celebrating our differences. It is focused on understanding our strengths and recognizing our limitations. In my experience the process, or for some the lack there of, for accessing formal diagnosis for neurodivergence comes with it’s own challenges. I recognize that for those who may have had formal diagnosis, the process in which that diagnosis may have come to be, can be filled with varying experiences from validation, and empowerment, to harm, shame or even being mislabelled. My work centres on supporting you to claim, name, and tend to your needs as directed by you.

  • As humans we are a social species, that require connection, belonging, and community. I believe in the power of authentic connection and open communication. By establishing trust, empathy, and respect, we can foster a safe space for self-expression, self-discovery, and healing. I believe that healing doesn’t take place in isolation, and I am proponent of exploring our relationships and attachments not only with our loves ones, and families, but also to our communities, cultures, the environment, and all living things.

  • Creating a strong and meaningful therapeutic alliance is crucial to the success of our work. Collaboration is at the core of every therapeutic relationship. By working together, we can explore your challenges, goals, and aspirations, to develop personalized strategies to support your mental and emotional wellbeing. In collaboration, we will navigate through your emotions and experiences, empowering you to cultivate resilience and positive growth. I believe that all people are experts in their own lives and experiences. In my practice, I work to actively disrupt the traditional client-therapist hierarchy, using humility and respect. I center you as the knowledge holder, and myself as the facilitator of the investigation. By working together, we can navigate through your experiences, and make meaning using personalized strategies to support your mental and emotional wellbeing and development.

  • As an advocate for social justice, I am dedicated to providing mental health care that challenges oppressive systems and centers marginalized voices. I recognize and address the impact of colonialism and racism on mental wellbeing. I strive to disrupt, reject and dismantle euro-centric, western, colonial ideologies and knowledge. Instead my goal is to remain critical and open to multiple ways of knowing, being, and seeing the world in order to offer transformative progressive ways forward.
